Schedule a building inspection

Building and Safety Division inspections are required by your permit.

Why and what we inspect

What we look for

Visiting your job site allows us to see your work. We verify that materials and construction methods meet all applicable building codes.

Inspections are organized in groups.

  • Foundation
  • Framing
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing (water, gas, fire sprinklers)
  • Mechanical (air ducts, furnace, chimney)

Each type of inspection has a 3 digit number. This number will be on your permit so you understand the types of inspection you need.

Timing:

It’s important to pass inspections on time. This keeps your project on schedule.

Delays:

We do our best, but there are situations that can cause delays:

  • Inspector is called but work is not ready.
  • Work is not to code.  Inspector must come back.
  • A “hold” is pending and we cannot inspect.

Remember that you may need other inspections, too.

You may need inspections from other agencies:

  • Fire
  • Public Works
  • Planning Division
  • Environmental Health & Safety.

Contact them directly to schedule these inspections and to pay fees.
