Street Scenes
On view from February 6 though May 23, 2025
Street Scenes features the work of six women photographers who gain their inspiration from the streets. These photographers share their visions of social impact, historic relevance, whimsy, and daily life each from a unique perspective and viewpoint.
Peg Hunter—Peg Hunter’s work centers on the communities and creative activism that come together to push for climate and environmental justice, social justice, and justice for immigrants. Her work highlights the deep, and sometimes unlikely, human connections that emerge from a shared commitment to work for a more just world.
Suz Lipman—Suz Lipman is a Marin County photographer and writer. Her lyrical street photography and long-form storytelling explore social and visual culture. In photographing the life-affirming rhythms and serendipity of both routine and celebratory events, she seeks color, joy and documentation of the human experience. Her photography has appeared in the International Center of Photography and numerous venues worldwide.
Toni Lobsenz—Toni Lobsenz is consistently attracted to the unusual, the whimsical and the beautiful; she began to photographically record the compelling world around her during extensive global travels for her work as a designer. The onset of the pandemic became the threshold of her passion for capturing images and began her photographic journey.
Margo MacArthur—Margo MacArthur’s street photography practice has been influenced by a search for identity and discovery arising from various life transitions. She is drawn to themes of introspection, detachment, alienation, and quirk. Order is conferred via light, shadow, lines, and shapes thus lending structure to the unsettling and often melancholic feelings that arise from these themes.
Stephanie Mohan—Stephanie Mohan graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in photojournalism. While Stephanie works as a portrait photographer in her Fairfax studio, her passion lies in covering protests. “I love the energy I see and feel on the street when people are standing in their passion and principle.”
Jenny Sampson—Jenny Sampson’s focus is wet plate collodion and traditional film photography. She is a member of the Rolls and Tubes photographic collective and writes for WithItGirl. She is a founding member of the East Bay Photo Collective, currently serving as the board president. She has two monographs, Skaters (2017) and Skater Girls (2020) published by Daylight Books. Skater Girls received Book of the Month from Leica Fotographie International in September 2020. Sampson’s photographic work is included in the Candela Collection and other private collections, and her books are included numerous public collections.
