Funding opportunities for nonprofits

The County launched its new Community Grants & Investment Program (CGIP) on July 1, 2025

We’re pleased to share that Marin County has launched a new Community Grants & Investment Program (CGIP), to replace the former Community Service Fund and Non-Profit Community Partners programs.

This new, streamlined program will largely continue prior efforts to support one-time projects, programs, community events, or initiatives that provide measurable community benefits and align with Board of Supervisors’ and community priorities—under one unified grants program

Applications for the County of Marin 2026 Community Grants and Investments Program may be submitted via our new Online Grant Management Platform, Submittable.  Applicants must create an account with Submittable in order to apply.

Key Details:

  • Award Range: $1,000–$50,000

    Organizations may only submit one application per calendar year.

    Organizations may request funds for up to three (3) programs, projects, community events or initiatives in the application as long as the total request does not exceed $50,000. 

     

  • Eligibility: 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), or tax-exempt Community Based Organization or Nonprofit, or an organization with a tax-exempt fiscal agent/sponsor; must provide services to all Marin County residents regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or other factors.  Preference given to locally based organizations.

    Funding is intended for one-time programs, projects, community events or initiatives that provide measurable benefits to the Marin community and that don’t clearly fit within the activities of a single County Department. Funding may be requested for capital projects.

    Funds MAY NOT be used for ongoing operations/programs, fundraising, or political/religious activities.

    Not required, but preference is given to requests that reflect 50% or less of the total proposed activity costs. Projects, programs, community events or initiatives submitted should also be funded by additional sources.

    Preference for programs, projects, community events or initiatives that support the Board and/or community priorities. 

    • Increasing affordable housing and addressing homelessness
    • Building a racially equitable community
    • Reducing carbon emissions and adapting to climate change and sea level rise
    • Enhancing disaster and emergency preparedness
    • Fostering community and economic vitality
    • Investing in county infrastructure

 

  • Funding Period: Funds are to cover expenses incurred between January 1 – December 31, 2026

    Unspent funds must be returned to the County. 

    A six-month extension beyond December 31, 2026 may be requested with reasonable justification.

     

  • Application Period: July 1- August 31, 2025

    The new Community Grants & Investment Program application will Only be Open Once a Year in July and August and fund projects, programs, community events or initiatives planned for the following calendar year.

     

  • Reporting Requirements: Once the funds are fully expended, grantees must submit a Notice of Completion (NOC) Form to the County.  

    A brief narrative report on project, program, community event or initiative status will be required for all awardees and posted on the County public-facing website.

 

Grant Recipients will be required to become a Vendor of the County of Marin in order to receive funds.  Applicants Do Not need to be a County of Marin Vendor to apply for the CGIP Grant.

 

A total of $1.65 million in funding is available for FY 2025-26, including $500,000 in one-time additional support.
