Body of News Release

San Rafael, CA – The Corte Madera branch of the Marin County Free Library (MCFL) is about to receive key facility upgrades and will be closed through the first week of September to accommodate the construction crews and assure the safety of visitors. Patrons, however, still have excellent options nearby to take advantage of library services both in-person and online.

The construction project includes improved paths of travel around the library grounds, electric vehicle chargers, a resurfaced parking lot, a new heating and cooling system, larger and more accessible bathrooms, and a drought-resistant, and sustainable outdoor redesign with a new extended deck and pathway lighting, meeting the needs of all patrons, including people with disabilities.

For patrons who have items on hold with the Corte Madera branch, please update your hold pickup location to an alternate location if you’d like receive those items during the closure. Please note that the book drop at the Corte Madera Library will also be closed starting August 1. Materials can be returned at any nearby library branch. Due dates will also be extended for all materials during the closure to limit the impact on library patrons. Please contact staff at any MCFL branch for further assistance.

Marin County Free Library cards are valid at all public and college libraries in the county. The libraries are funded and operated by the cities, towns, and universities, not by the County of Marin, therefore borrowing policies and hours might vary.

The closest alternative library locations are the Larkspur Library (400 Magnolia Avenue) and the Marin City Library (164 Donahue Street). Regular visitors to the Corte Madera branch are reminded about all the handy options to MCFL’s online services. They can get free access to eBooks, streaming movies, magazines, newspapers, educational materials, research and more as long as they have an MCFL library card and a password (PIN).

The estimated $2.3 million construction project is funded through the Corte Madera Library Accessibility Fund, Marin County Free Library Measure A funds, and the County's Climate Action Plan allocations.
