Marin County, CA – On October 25, the Marin County Probation Department, in collaboration with the Marin County Sheriff’s Department, the San Rafael Police Department, and the California State Parks executed the Annual 290 Sweep. This collaborative law enforcement operation aims to ensure compliance with California Penal Code 290, which mandates that registered sex offenders report to their local police stations.

This year's sweep focused on four key areas: South County, San Rafael, Novato South, and Novato North. The High-Risk & Parole Unit led the operation and also included a focus on DUI offenders and Juveniles involved in gang activity, all of whom are currently on active supervised probation.

We successfully identified 38 individuals for outreach and contacted 29 of them. This group included 13 repeat DUI offenders, 12 registered sex offenders (PC-290 registrants), and 4 juveniles on probation with gang-related conditions. The operation involved 19 home searches, 2 vehicle searches, and the examination of 9 electronic devices, leading to the seizure of 4 phones and one computer for further investigation. One PC-290 registrant was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail for violating restrictions on prohibited content. Additionally, 7 individuals were subjected to chemical and breath testing.

“Ensuring compliance among registered sex offenders and high-risk cases is vital for community safety,” said Lourdes Duran, Supervisor Deputy Probation Officer. “By collaborating with various law enforcement agencies, we strengthen our efforts to hold offenders accountable and protect our residents.”

We worked diligently to verify compliance, educate offenders on their responsibilities, and enforce necessary actions when violations were identified.

The Marin County Probation Department is committed to maintaining a safe environment for its residents through proactive law enforcement initiatives. The Annual 290 Sweep exemplifies the county's dedication to public safety and community well-being.
